Jane’s cup of Joe: Introductions & Moving tips

Blogging, Military Life

Welcome to our very FIRST episode of “Jane’s cup of Joe”

If you haven’t heard about this yet, I have talked four of my most-favorite-funny-women-on-the-planet to join me on friday mornings for a brand new talk show called “Jane’s cup o’Joe”. All of us are military wives at different stages of marriage, motherhood, and life – each with a unique sense of humor and a wealth of experiences to share.

One of the things that really helped me as a brand new wife, military spouse, and eventually mom, was to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience around me in the form of seasoned military spouses. Folks who had been there, done there, bought the T-shirt!

So here is our first show!  We talked about fitness routines, shopping for asian food, some recipes (I’m sharing the links below the video) and some things we’ve learned about moving!  There are a few lulls and real life children interruptions as today’s format wasn’t very structured, but I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback for next week!

The first recipe we shared was “Nutella Crepes” from Lisa’s blog Crazy Adventures in Parenting
Seriously? I am thinking I want this for breakfast on my birthday that is coming up!
(dear hubby… hint hint… cough cough… wink wink… )

The second one suggested by Cricket was a Chicken Spaghetti casserole dish that she has had a lot of success with.  Oh and if you’re scared of new things? That link goes to Pioneer Woman’s website – and her recipes are always full of photos and great instructions for every. single. step.

Which is why I love her website. and her.

but not in a weird way. Yaknowwhatimean?

The second half of our show, we talked about moving tips and tricks that have worked for us!
One of the most important things I’ve learned over the years, is to create a moving binder.
All of our moving documents as well as family records are all kept safely in one place.

What are your “lessons learned” during your last move?  Do you have a horror story to share?

Please share your tips in the comments and let’s learn from one another!

Join us next week for episode 2 at 730am Pacific,  830 Mountain, 930 Central, and 1030 Eastern Time!

So – What did you think of our first show? What topics would you like to talk about on Jane’s cup o’Joe?

If you could ask a “Seasoned Military Spouse” for advice on something what would it be?

And lastly – Please feel free to share some constructive criticism so we can improve!

(For example : A good friend of mine already suggested I work on the harsh lighting at my house! )

I can’t wait to watch the video and see what the moving tips are.. So far, every move is just plain annoying, I don’t know what else to do but just power thru them!
I am working on writing up a Ten Tips for moving during a deployment. I currently am moving back to our duty station after living near family while my my hubby is deployed… It wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be, and I want to share my experiences and see what everyone else thinks!

I’ve moved while Seth was in the field and deployed – Not EASY! If you are moving yourself – something that really helped me was to buy a bunch of the big rubber maid totes? They were sturdy, stackable, and had nice comfortable handles! Both moves were in the same town to another set of quarters, so they were perfect for filling and dumping, filling and dumping as I went back and forth with our trailblazer and 2 little ones! :) Then I had some friends come over for a cleaning party – I fed them and provided heavy duty purple plastic gloves – then they each helped me tackle the oven, the bathroom, and washing down the walls with magic erasers! :)

I do have a horror story to share. We’ve always done well with our moves…and our last one was no different until the Monday after our stuff was packed up in Baumholder:

I have been thrilled with reading your blog from the very beginning Ann! You’ve always given such wonderful information and introduced me to the most wonderful people (P-Dub). So I wasn’t surprised when you posted your moving binder the first time! And it’s count-down to PCS time for us. Pat is overseas, and when he returns I will be ready for him to help us pack out. I’m not sure how much of the move I will have to do alone but I suspect it will be a great amount. LOL!! At least, that’s what I am planning for.

I’d love more info about that ‘book’ that one of the ladies mentioned….I never heard of such a thing until a friend mentioned it.
