Back to basics and finishing our move

October 2, 2012

Blogging, Military Life, Moving

Things have been a little quiet around here as I’ve been getting back to basics in our home.

For starters, I’ve started meal planning again to reduce our grocery bill.
(Also? Maggie has decided she wants to be a mechanic someday.)

Mama? Can you hand me the crescent wrench? #futuremechanic

I am attempting to bike about 10 miles a week – which doesn’t sound like much until you add
about 50 pounds of preschoolers in a trailer. As the weather gets cooler, I hope to increase my mileage!

Don't you wish your Mommy was hot like mine #bikerchick

All the while, I’ve been learning a lot about growing things in the desert.

Funny thing about grass – if you’d like it to be green?
it needs water.
often.
really often.
without forgetting often.

Which means any baby green grass at our house a blinking miracle.

So as for this blog? I want to thank you all for your warm and encouraging comments on my last post.
Reading them rekindles the flame that started this blogging journey.

To share my thoughts and experiences about this life so others can know they are not alone.
To share the idea that although challenges come our way, we will keep going.
To be kind and continue to value each other in the midst of stress

That we can’t let bad experiences dictate our future – they are simply opportunities to learn from.

Besides – how else would we learn to ride a bike without training wheels?
Try. Fall. Try again. Fall. Try again. WE DID IT!  Fall.

Wait – am I the only one who did that?

I think too, I’ve been so excited to share our PCS journey, that it has made unpacking and reorganizing take much longer than usual.  In time I will be sharing my thoughts about moving back to “The States”, buying a house, as well as living in a completely new climate.

So with this in mind, I’ve decided that I will be slowing my blogging pace for the month of October to every few days rather than daily.  Feel free to subscribe in your preferred reader or via email so we can keep in touch. Or just stop by and say hi on facebook now and then – I’ll always have coffee on and hopefully some pie on the counter!

How do you keep your family in balance after a move?

How do you keep YOU in balance in the midst of marriage, children, and life?

Let’s encourage each other!

we are still fumbling through with a meal plan, and schedules.. but we’re getting the hang of ROUTINE! :) I want to decorate MORE, paint MORE and go go go…but we’ve only been back for what…since the beginning of August? IN our home since then…so we have until Christmas to ‘fumble’ a bit more and get on the bike :) Keep going GIRLY!!! You can do it!!

First off, Welcome Back to the States! Every PCS presents its own set of challenges, glad to hear you are settling in and you’re out and about on your bike! Hopefully the weather cooperates so you can stick with it. And now you’ve got me interested in gardening in the desert… I just blogged about balancing family time and “mommy” time. It’s so easy to forget “you” time but equally important as the rest!

I can’t wait until I can start biking again. We need to get a trailer, though, and have the baby grow a few more months… they don’t recommend it for kids under a year. Boo!

I for one always needed many months after a move to regroup…become a hermit for a time…let myself go through the grief of a move (even a good move has grief of things, especially people, you leave behind.) And I think my body and system need time to settle in. I never had a blog I was writing during a move so I don’t know if blogging would have felt like stepping outside my hermit shell or if it would have felt like the journaling that always got me through moves. Trust your gut! We love hearing (and seeing) from you…but in your own way and in your own good time:)

In the game, some players become confused when the time comes to execute a wrestler’s signature finishing move. Fortunately, as long as you know which button to press, performing a finishing move is simple.
