Not that long ago, my day began with the sound of a whispery little boy voice…
Mama – Is it the first day of school yet?
No darlin. It is still 10 more days until the first day of school…
I had no idea our middle child would make this into a regular thing…
Mama? Is it the first day of school YET?
No darlin. It is just 9 more days until the first day of school
And then I can tell my teacher my name is Bruce Wayne?
Yes Puddin. We can tell your teacher your other name is Bruce Wayne…
Maaah – oommmmm? Is it the first day of school YET?
No sweetheart it’s still 5 more days away. Thats all the fingers on one hand left to go.
And then I can wear my Batman backpack?
Yes hunny – then you can wear your Batman backpack…
Mommy? Is it the first day of school yet?
Yes hunny. Today is your first day of school!
WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!! IT’S THE FIRST DAY OF MY BRAND NEW SCHOOL!!!!!

Dear Teachers.
It takes a very special person to do the job that you do.
I admire your patience, creativity, and enthusiasm.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers this school year.
And all the Mothers everywhere said, Amen.

I hope my future kids are as excited for their first day at a new school, in a new city, or even country like yours are! Out of all the things I could fear about being married to a lifer, that has to be the scariest. What if my kids don’t want to move? My husband and I love the adventure of moving and seeing new things, but what if they don’t see it like that?

My two daughters are 26 and 23 and every year on the first day of school I would be in tears because I have never been the kind of mom that couldn’t wait for the first day of school and now they are both teachers and my hubby who served 28 years is beginning his second career as a high school math teacher in just a week and once again, I will be sad when they all start their first days and I am again in a quiet house! But I admire, envy and love what they are doing for our future and our country by teaching our future leaders!! Wishing your children their best year of school ever!
