Rain in the desert

Encouragement, Family, Our Chillins

Living in Germany, planning for rain was almost part of everyday life.

I had umbrellas by my front door, in the van, and even a small one for my market basket.

But here in El Paso it rains so rarely,
it compels me to stop what I’m doing
to step onto our back porch
and just enjoy the refreshing pitter patter of rain drops…

The kids are usually quick to follow… even if they’re still in pajamas…

And sometimes those afternoon showers… create a lovely sunset rainbow too!

What is the weather like where you live?

Does anyone else enjoy falling asleep to the sound of rain drops on the roof?

How about the smell of rain in the desert? I’ve lived in NM most of my life and that is hands-down one of my favorite scents. Beautiful pictures!

Our weather here is on a cooling trend this week… Tomorrow’s high is forecast to be 68.
I am leaning toward summer being over for those of us in the PNW. Summer is always short here… We get maybe a month or two of summer…if we’re lucky that is.

In Oklahoma we have the same issue, there is a serious lack of rain, so when it does FB is filled with people taking pictures of it and praising God for it… we just get to pray it doesn’t bring tornadoes!

Seconding the first commenter! Dessert rain is one of my favorite scents. When I lived in England I literally craved that smell some days—going back to NM was like heaven, because I could smell the rain again!

We get plenty of rainfall here in Washington but while living in California it was rare to have rain and so it was appreciated all the more, the smell of “wet” fragrance is so nice. We were stationed in Germany in the 50′s and are looking forward to a Space A trip there next month and hoping not to get too wet but will enjoy it anyhoo.

We just got through a CAT4 typhoon this weekend, so we’re kinda glad to not have much rain today. We’re on our way to TX this fall though – I’m sure I’ll come to appreciate rain much more in the coming months. Unfortunately I haven’t figured out a way to take our Okinawa rain with us in our household goods. LOL

We LOVE sitting on the porch and watching the rain. Sitting on the porch and watching a thunder storm is even better though :)
