Quick and Easy Frozen Yogurt

August 23, 2012

Cooking, Dessert

We eat a lot of yogurt.
Let me rephrase that.
We used to eat a lot of yogurt.

In Germany, this was a common afternoon snack for our children. But this summer, with the temperatures over 100 in El Paso, I’ve favored fresh veggies and fruit – finger food type things that have very little clean up required.  And can be eaten on the porch, in the pool, or carried out to the “club house” for a meeting of the three amigos.

So back to the yogurt at hand.
Or the hand at the yogurt?
Or the hand in the yogurt?
Ok. Time to regroup.

Recently while I was unpacking, I discovered my Kitchen Aid Ice Cream maker…
And then it hit me…

Homemade Frozen Yogurt #YouAreTheBestMommyEver #SoEasy

I do have a very important tip to remember.

PLEASE be sure to keep the mixer RUNNING as you add the yogurt!

The first batch I made, I dumped the yogurt in the bowl and THEN turned the mixer on? Yeah – almost broke the beater! It instantly FROZE solid! This resulted in me frantically scraping the partially frozen yogurt out of the mixer into a large bowl until it was empty enough to run properly. Then I slowly added the yogurt again one spoonful at a time.

I chose to add only the yogurt so it isn’t as sweet as the store bought frozen yogurt.
But the possibilites for adding fresh fruit or using flavored yogurt are endless!

What are your favorite “Maaah – aaahm!!  It’s HOT outside!” snacks for your family?

What is your favorite flavor of frozen ice cream or yogurt?

Note: Did you notice the two syllable name my children have given me?
WHY do all children DO that when it’s hot outside?

Oh my, I think I may have to pony up the $$ and get that ‘attachement” for my mixer…. I think my kids would love that. I would have to add fruits, as the only yogurt I buy is greek yogurt….

I love that idea for yogurt. My big question though is what side of town/post did you find that has this magically mirage known as a pool attached to a house? I’m stuck sitting in my dogs kiddie pool lol.

Definitely an idea to invest in an icecream maker attachment. Then again I don’t even have a mixer, so perhaps I should get one of those too.

I am also thinking of venturing into the wonderful world of vintage clothes and will be trying my luck at making my own – so I will need a good sewing machine as well.

    The $$ just piles up.

And we are moving to where you were – which is why I wrote this note: *whisper* you need to change your “about” as it still says you are in Germany… :)
