In the past few weeks, we have traveled over 2,000 miles from Pennsylvania to Texas.
Along the way, we added a new family member – a gift from close family friends in Michigan.
Her name is “Dixie”
We had perfect weather and some fantastic views.
Once arriving here in beautiful El Paso, we bought our very first home.
We also bought our first refrigerator and stove.
And less than an hour after installation, we made our first Homeowners Insurance Claim.
Which brings us to this very moment…
A warm cup of coffee…
The sound of ceiling reconstruction in my living room…
My phone chirps with a text message from my husband only 15 minutes away…
The sun is drying up the remnants of last night’s rain and the sky is a beautiful blue…
It is going to be a beautiful day!
So – How is your summer going so far?
Do you have any “fun” stories about buying a home?

The last house we bought, my husband got the Uhaul stuck in the yard, and we had to call a truck that tows semis to get it out, and I locked my keys in my car – as they were towing the Uhaul out of the still wet yard. There are other stories from that move, but that’s just the first day.

I think this is something all great homeowners go through. We bought a house at our last duty station {FLW}. We had the movers deliver all of our stuff and started unpacking. We had used a spare bedroom to store things we knew we wouldn’t open immediately. Then my grandma got sick and we spend 3-4 weeks in my home town. When we returned and finally got around to tackle that room with all the random stuff in it, we discovered water had leaked into that room from a window. EVERYTHING WAS SOAKED! We had to replace part of the wall, carpet padding {thank God the carpet itself was salvageable} and most of the things that had been in that room. It was awful. I definitely feel your pain!

We’re buying our first home in CO. I saw your post on fb and got really nervous. It’s brand new and being built, but still…anything could happen. :/ Neither me or my hubby has had a house when we were growing up, so we’re very excited. Hope your insurance fixes everything for you guys and it’s not tooo $$$$$.
Enjoy the coffee!

Oh my gosh: (1) Dixie is SO cute and (2) Yikes…what a hole! The very same weekend we moved into our first home, we had terrible downpours and our basement flooded (and I mean FLOODED!) Needless to say, we cancelled the carpet installation scheduled for the following week and went with tile…just in case. Thankfully, the joys of home ownership outweigh the irritations!
Happy New Home!

So funny. The last time I checked out your Facebook page as you were leaving Germany I sighed over the beautiful picture of the rainbow over your German town and wondered how the extreme change in venue would affect you. Now you start your blogging with a rainbow picture over your new city. Isn’t it awesome how you will find beauty wherever you look for it? Welcome back to the US! I’m so happy that you are all together and hope all is going well with reintegration.

I blogged about our first days as homeowners too!!! LOL!! Our waterline to the refrigerator came out and attempted to flood our kitchen. Thankfully we were home and caught it before it did major damage… some water damage to the molding around the fridge. Nice welcome to the new house;)
Looks like yours was way more major. Thankfully you all had insurance!

Dixie is so cute. I love puppy and Dixie is quite chubby and healthy so I want to hug that puppy. It seems you did a lot of reconstruction in your home and your family members are helping each other which is really good.

I like your puppy Dexie. He is so cute and I like to touch his cute face. It seems you will have a lot of things to fix in your new home. I like your family since you are helping together.
