It has been almost three weeks since my last confession. er. um. blog post.
And while I have missed all of you, it has been a wonderful respite for our family.
(This is rural Pennsylvania near where my Mom lives.)
We’ve traveled more than 2,000 miles to visit with family and friends in Michigan…
Watched boats pass from Lake Superior to Huron at the Sault St Marie, Soo Locks.
Marveled at small wonders – like all the choices in American.
“LOOK at all the TRUCKS MOM!!!”
And been borderline shocked at “medium” portion sizes…
For now we’re still thrilled with the nearly forgotten tastes of home…
Enjoying the warm hospitality of family, the comfort of soft quilts,
and the sound of horse and buggies trotting by on the way to market.
Do you have summer travel plans for your family?
What are the things you love the most about coming back home?

Welcome back to the states & to blogging! Missed reading your posts!
My family is moving to Asia this summer & we’re looking forward to the adventure. But I’m sure there will be many things we miss about home too.
Cheers,
Kristina

Aww enjoy your time home! We are going back to the States for two weeks–we leave in 8 days! I am very excited! It will probably be one of our only trips back home while we are overseas so we are going to enjoy it. Plus it will also be our little girls first birthday. I am personally looking forward to having Chick Fil A

Welcome “home”! Oh how I remember the culture shock, but it has been a few years since I PCSed from a continent across the ocean back to the sweet soil of America. My biggest shock was the TV shows and commercials I had missed. New friends would talk about their favorite boob-tube item and I’d get the dear in the headlight look. “Oh, right, Leanne. You probably missed that one.” So glad you got to traverse the US and see family and friends. It was quite a summer for us as well, way back when. Funny what you try to fit in just because you can!

Its always the taste of food where I grew up….New York. So fish frys on Friday, beef on weck, pizza, wings, subs, real chinese food, bison french onion chip dip….all the yummy stuff.

I hope you are enjoying yourself and adjusting back to life in the states. When do you make it to El Paso?

You’re not the only one shocked by what size a “medium” soda is now. I was pretty thirsty a couple weeks ago when I stopped for lunch with my younger child, so I got a medium soda. I swear it’s what the “super” size was when that first came out. I got it at 11am, and it took me until after dinner to finish. I even had help. I’m still rather shocked.

We are going to visit family in a couple of weeks where we will also enjoy Yuengling
. I am also from a small town in PA with buggies.
Welcome Home!! Isn’t is strange how you feel the culture shock coming back to America, too. I think my kids felt it more than we did. Mostly because they were so little, 5 and 2 when we moved back from overseas.

Welcome back to the states. I haven’t been away from the states and I am still shocked by the drink sizes. Especially when I order water and I get a Dixie cup…ok just kidding but it is almost that size!
