especially our local ice cream man who always slips them extra gummy bears.

That was our FAVORITE thing of living in Germany. I miss that stuff. Bring it stateside, please!
I have a cute picture of our kids eating it on the grass during 4th of July. Sooo good!

I loved walkig to ice cream shops in Germany and have a Roche Becker mmmmm (I miss them). We did have icecream truck as well wish I took pictures like you, the sirans the excitment it was great.

No, I am afraid living out in the countryside of things, no ice cream trucks come along,
Hell, if they made the mistake of comming down our road (which branches off into three dead ends) they might just get shot at!! I LIVE on this road, and took the kids along on a bike and walk (two rode bikes, one walked with me and the horse I was walking to warm up/dry off after a bath) and we got looks of severe suspicion and death..Take this with the fact that ALL of those people DRIVE past OUR place. They would be blind to not see my horses out in the pasture for pete’s sake. Makes a body feel all warm and tingly and welcome to the neighborhood now doesn’t it? lol

I miss German ice cream. they had such exotic flavors. I also miss so many other Germany foods and customs, especially Kaffee und Kuchen! And so many other things, Kasespetzle, oh, and having bottled water, my favorite bottle juice (about 14 different fruits in one juice), beer and wine delivered by a guy who picked up the empties too (talk about recycling). We were laughing recently about how a friend’s dad was visiting, was at the playground with the kids and all of a sudden, they were all running towards the houses yelling “It’s the Beer Man!”
and don’t worry, your kids will remember. I grew up in Germany when my dad was working with the Air Force in Berlin. I can still see and almost taste the great neapolitan ice cream sandwiches at the German Olympic pool, very different from our ice cream sandwiches. And can still picture walking up to the German candy store for our favorites…gummies, the real gummi Baren, the candy pills in a plastic baby bottle, the gummi candy in the shape of a pacifier, etc. etc.

Decide what kind of ice cream cake you want to make. You can use any combination of cake and ice cream flavors. Chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream is always a crowd pleaser.
