The Porta Nigra of Trier Germany

Germany, Military Life

The title of this post should really be:
The Porta Nigra of Trier, Germany through the “Cute Butt Cam”.

Let me explain.

You see, when we are walking around touristy places, I try not to be toooooo obvious with my camera.

Ok well not ALL the time, but I try – really I do.

So anyways – often times, I’ll carry it down by my hip or even stoop down low to click click click a few pictures of
what is going on around me. Hence the interesting perspective on some of my photographs.

Hey – check out the cute butt at 2 o’clock…

Ahem – I mean -

Look! There is the famous Porta Nigra, which is latin for Black Gate.

It was built between 186 and 200 AD when the city of Trier was second only to Rome

It’s an impressive structure. So tall and structurally sound. Chiseled… sculpted…

Yes – It’s a verrrrry a nice view from the South Side… of the Porta Nigra.

This is the view from inside -

I couldn’t capture the total view in my camera,

so I decided to cut some random tourists off at the waist instead.

Sorry – I’m really nice in person!

This is standing on the North Side, looking to the East.

It boggles my mind how the city has evolved over the past 2,000 years.

Zoom in a little – the houses are comparatively so modern to the gate,
and yet so historic when viewed through my eyes.

The thirteen colonies who were the first of the United States of America,
were a wilderness when many of these structures were built.

Looking back to the South, here is a view through the gate at the heart of the city.

(This is one of my favorite pictures from our day.)

Turning a little to the West, you can see another lovely view.

Of the Porta Nigra.  Ahem.

Oh bummer…

Looks like that cute butt is already taken…

Do you ever drive your husband bananas by taking too many pictures?

Have you ever tried holding your camera somewhere other than at eye level?

Try it sometime! You might be surprised at what you capture!

I’m from Savannah, GA (founded in 1733) and I always thought it was so historic, but now I am totally amazed when visiting all of these structures around Europe. I love all of this history!

I’ve changed a diaper on that cobblestone street right next to one of the buildings back in 2004! LOL
