Nothing bigger than a breadbox

Germany, Military Life

Yesterday a dear friend of mine called as she was walking into a local restaurant with her family.
“Hey! I’m on my way out to dinner” she whispered. “But I HAD to call you – It’s Junkin in Baumholder right now!”

Now during the deployment – this would call for an immediate “Ok Kids!  Get your shoes on!” reaction.

But things are different now – my husband is home.

And as I’ve shared before when explaining Junkin in Germany, he is the level headed, purger in our family.
Where as I am the dreamer, crafter, “I’ll just paint it a different color”, and rearrange the furniture person in our family.

Which means for the sake of our marriage, we had to come to a reasonable agreement:

“Nothing bigger than a breadbox.”

So I decided to take my camera along to share some of the cool finds that WERE bigger than a breadbox.
Like these cool white retro couches… very Austin Powers…

YEAH Baby YEAH…

And these matching hunter orange chairs would’ve been perfect for the man cave…

Hello there puppy dog!

“What are those silly Americans up to now…”

Hmmm… I bet I could find a purpose for these wooden spools on pinterest…

I think my favorite find was this perfect replica shade from the leg lamp in “A Christmas Story”

FRA – GEE – LAY…  Must be Italian…

Have you ever been Junking in your neighborhood?

Feel free to share links in the comments or a photo on the HH6 fb page!

I would love to see your treasures and/or the projects you’ve created from them!

Has anyone made a faux fireplace they’d like to share pictures of?

David experienced junkin’ for the first time last night. He was not enthused, but agreed it was a cool concept. Ha. :)
Oh. I didn’t see those chairs when we drove around yesterday.
I saw a floor lamp that would that lamp shade perfectly!

I wonder if I can steal the car this afternoon and drive around… Would love to find some treasures.
    Did you bring anything home?

Thank you so much for reminding me last night. It was nice to go out by myself after everyone was asleep. I saw those chairs with the orange seats! I don’t have room for them though. Here’s what I was able to fit in the car… http://hborstad.blogspot.com/2012/02/junkin-in-germany.html

How did you resist those chairs???? Omg I had already reupholstered them and possibly painted them in my mind as soon as I saw the photo! And those spools! God only knows what I would do with them, but they would eventually be useful for SOMETHING, right??? This is why my husband won’t let me go yard-saling alone. It can get very dangerous… ;)
