Ball Gown Makeover Part 1: Gathering stitches and flip flops

February 8, 2012

Fashion, Home & Garden

Today I spent some time working on my Ball Gown Makeover Project.

The first step is gathering up the fashion fabric (outer layer) to make a pleated bodice.

I used doubled thread for strength – small stitches on top and large stitches underneath.

After sewing the length of each seam, I held the thread and gathered the fabric.

I also decided to leave the bottom 8 inches or so un-gathered .

One challenge I have, is the zipper in the back prevents me from gathering the fabric as high as I’d like.

So it will have to be gathered up to the waist in the front, hips to the side, and lower in the back.

Oh and another thing.

I think I need to find someone to wear it while I do these alterations.

It’s kinda hard to pin material around ones bum while in a tightly laced bodice.

(Not to mention trying to take pictures of one’s bum for one’s blog.)

Can someone please come unzip me now?

Have you ever given an old formal gown a makeover?

What are your favorite shoes to wear around the house?
(I heart my fluffy flip flops!)

Even with the low zipper issue, it’s looking GREAT! Many kudos for pinning yourself in that… I don’t think I’d be able to do that! Can’t wait to see the final product!

P.S. LOVE the fluffy flip flops!
