Cell phone time capsule

Equipment, Photography

When we moved to Germany, we decided to only purchase one cell phone and plan.  This was because not only were we were sharing one car, and Seth was also getting ready to deploy for 14 months – it was an unnecessary luxury in my book.  So I dumped our circa 2006 razor phones and chargers in a ziploc bag and stuck them in a box of electronics in the basement.

When it was almost time for Seth to return home, I realized we were going to need another phone.  So after searching for hours online for the magical ‘unlock’ method, I decided to call the Cingular’s 1-800 number and just see what happened.

Hi! My name is Ann Marie. My husband and I were very good customers of your company from 2004 to 2007 – meaning we always paid our bills on time.  We terminated our contract (which we twice renewed) with Cingular, now AT&T, when my husband received orders for Germany.  So, what I was wondering was – would you be willing to provide me with the unlock codes for our phones so that we can use them here in Europe?

Within 10 minutes I had detailed instructions including unlock codes!

So this week I bought another new prepaid Tmobile SIM card for 17 Euro from our TKS store.
And being the loving wife, I programed all the important phone numbers into my husband’s old phone.

One of the neat things about using our old phones is rediscovering the old photos.
They’re like miniature time capsules.  Here are a few I found on Seth’s phone today.

2006 Jacob my little gardener…                                                   and washing Daddy’s bike…

2007 William in Daddy’s lap…                                                     I had no idea these pictures existed…

How long have you had your current cell phone?

Do you save your cell phone pictures to a computer?

Do you ever print them out?

I had an ancient flip phone for years, up until this past October when the hubby and I got iPhones (4, not 4S). I had no data plan, no internet… just texting, cruddy pictures, calls, and tetris! Every now and then I would ‘text’ my pictures to my email so I could save them, but they were such bad quality I never bothered to try and print them! Now with the iPhone I am SORELY tempted…

What a wonderful find! Sending my pictures to my computer is something I am terrible at except for the occasional send to Facebook.

I have just upgraded my phone for the first time in 6 years, but have passed my old one onto my husband. I found lots of lovely baby photos on my old one, but they can’t ever be printed off or anything, so will stay on there for ever.
