Recently, my husband and I had the pleasure of attending a Masquerade Social.
Here is a close-up picture of my dress – the Castle is a symbol for the Corps of Engineers.

And may I introduce you to my handsome date for the evening… Jack Frost.

The evening began with a few words from the Commander and a Military tradition called the “Grog Ceremony”.  I’ve been told this tradition began many years ago when troops would share their “spirits” with one another to make sure that everyone had something to drink. Those “spirits” consisted of whatever the individual troops’ tastes were.  When it was all mixed together, it made a very powerful drink called “GROG”. (Italic words are a quote from my friend Monica’s blog, Daily Dwelling.)

Leaders from each part of our Task Force stepped forward to recite details of the unit history then add various ingredients to the large punch bowl… This included some sand to represent the beaches of Normandy and the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan.  (This photo is courtesy of my friend Michelle via facebook).

Then the dancing started…

And the Engineer Castle cake was cut…

We had a fantastic time laughing with friends and dancing the night away.

I think my favorite part was spending alone time with husband an entire evening.

Partly because I secretly LOVE to dance…

And partly because I really needed help walking in these…
