Junking Weekend or “Sperrmüll Wochenende”

Last summer, when I blogged about Junkin in Germany, I shared how my husband and I
are polar opposites when it comes to… ahem… “curbside shopping”.

He is a purger and I am the practical one… err… um… let’s change the subject….
So this time around, I thought I’d explain a few details to those of you asking
“So what exactly is a Junkin Weekend anyways?”

In Germany, there are a lot of rules pertaining to your garbage.
Trash is limited to specific weekly amount and must be sorted, separated, recycled, etc.

However, twice a year in our small town (sometimes more often in bigger cities)
there is a weekend where the Germans can put ANYTHING to the curb.
It’s called “Sperrmuell Wochenende”or “Junkin Weekend”.

You can find schranks, tables, chairs, fridgerators, flower pots – ALL kinds of things for FREE…
The only problem is you need to be able to haul it…

and a minivan with three large carseats won’t haul either of these…
(a marble-top dresser and a two piece kitchen cabinet)

or this beautiful antique carved cabinet…

Look – flowerpots!  Score!

Ahem… Anyone need a pit stop?

Stay tuned as I reveal some of my surprising finds!

Are you a trash picker frugal curbside shopper too?
What is craziest thing you’ve ever hauled in your car?
Oh and one more thing – Does anyone have a truck I can borrow?
