In recent weeks, we have had a serious Baby boom in my military community.
But that’s what happens 10 months after a long deployment…
*ahem*
So I thought I would share with all of you how to make my favorite Baby Shower Gift!
Materials: 2 packages of diapers, roll of mailing tape, ribbon, clear gift wrap, and small baby decorations
The key to making a diaper cake is only letting the tape stick to the “velcro” waist band.
Fold over the edge and start with one diaper like this…
Then add the second diaper like this…
Now make a reeeaaaaallly loooooonnnnng row…
Pick up your strip and make a circle…
Cut your tape and fold over the edge – that way the mom to be can take it apart!
Be sure to leave it a little long (4 inches or so) because this is what holds the layer together.
Now stuff it full of diapers and make a few more layers – each a little smaller in diameter…
I use the Wilton Cake Circles as a guide for size and to support the base.
(When I was pregnant with my first child, I was given one on a round pizza cookie sheet!)
I always give the extra diapers along with the original packaging in a nice large gift bag.
(That way the Mom-to-be knows what type/size diaper you gave!
And it is a convenient place to dismantle the cake if she is short on counter space!)
Stack the layers and start wrapping a ribbon around each one…
Decorate with small Baby themed items – I used these little clothespins and baby feet charms!
You can also add a few pacifiers or wash clothes or diaper cream – be creative!
Wrap ribbon vertically around the entire cake to hold it together.
Wrap in clear gift wrap – Then wrap it in ribbon one more time!
When I receive and invitation to a baby shower, I ask if the Mom-to-be has any “diaper preferences”.
I have found this to be something they will definitely use and looks quite pretty on the gift table!
